News just came out from the team at Blizzard. In time for the anniversary of both Starcraft and Starcraft: Broodwars, Blizzard has announced a new initiative for the game – Starcraft: Remastered. Fans of both the original game and expansion will be happy to note that the game will get an overhaul in terms of graphics, game connectivity and options, while keeping the original storyline intact.
WHat is new is support for widescreen UHD support, with resolution going up to 4K. This will allow owners of monitors such as the Acer XR382CQK 37.5inch gaming screen to play the game in its highest resolution without looking like it is from an 8-bit game. All units, maps and elements of the game will be given an upgrade, as you can see in the images below.
Better yet, the remastered game will have the ability to connect to Blizzard App (formerly known as Battle.net), the ability to save to the cloud, and more. The game will be a new purchase, but the current Starcraft version will be getting an update in preparation of the new version.
Once the update is live, StarCraft Anthology, which includes the original game and the Brood War expansion, will be free to download and play.
Starcraft: Remastered will be available for both Windows and Mac, with no released date as of this posting. Stay tuned for more information as they come along.
