Spotify coming to Chromecast

Listening to music at home is made easier now with Spotify and Chromecast. Simply plug in the Chromecast into your TV, make sure both your phone and Chromecast are connected to the same WiFi network and start playing a track.

Even better, it doesn’t intervene with your smartphone’s other functions. You can still make calls, text, play games or watch videos. The music will keep playing even if your battery runs out since the Chromecast is still connnected to the Spotify app through your wifi network.

Spotify will release a firmware update over the next few weeks to make it available on the new Chromecast. For premium subscribers, they will additionally be able to play music through the new Chromecast Audio.

This function is not limited to your TV. You can also connect your Chromecast to a PlayStation or bluetooth speaker. To switch between devices, you only need to select the desired device from your phone.

Although switching between devices should be seamless, it means you must have your smartphone, which contains the Spotify app, with you all the time especially to change the device from which you’re listening music from. But hey, aren’t we already inspearable from our smartphone anyway?

It also might be a tad inconvenient to plug off your Chromecast, if you only have one, from one device to another so that listening to music this way might not be that seamless after all.
