It’s taken a while but we’ve finally made it! After months of rumours and delays, Sony has finally unveiled what it’s next generation console (or consoles) looks like, and the most surprising thing about it all is the fact that Sony has revealed not one but two new consoles!
Made up of a white outer shell with black..um.. innards, the PS5 will come in two variants, namely the slightly thicker 4K Blu-ray drive version and the slimmer pure Digital Edition without an optical drive. The main difference in design between the two is the absence of an optical drive in the latter version, thus giving it a slimmer silhouette.
As has been consistent for the past 4 versions, the PS5 can be placed both vertically and horizontally. Under the hood, the PS5 is an absolute beast, with a custom eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU that is clocked at 3.5GHz and on a custom GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture. There are also reports that it will come sporting 16GB of GDDR6 RAM and will have a custom 825GB Solid State Drive (SSD) for faster load times.
In terms of video capabilities, PS5 games will run in 4K resolution at a 120Hz refresh rate. On top of that, it will also support 8K graphics but no news on whether or not that will maintain the 120Hz rate or not. The PS5 is also the first PlayStation to feature 3D Audio, which will apparently deliver more immersive audio and sound effects when playing games.
While the whole unveiling was cool and all, Twitter has exploded with memes about the design of the PS5 and some of them are just pure gold. Here are some of our favourites:

Gotta love Twitter. With all this being said and done, the only thing that’s left for Sony to unveil is the release date and price of the console, which i’m certain is going to be scrutinised very closely. How much do you guys think the PS5 should be? Let us know in the comments.
