Sony has unveiled the Alpha™ 1 II, the second generation of its flagship full-frame mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. Powered by Sony’s latest AI processing unit, the Alpha 1 II features a 50.1 MP sensor and up to 30 fps blackout-free continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking. The camera boasts advanced AI-based subject recognition, including a new “Auto” mode that automatically detects various subjects without the need for manual selection. It also inherits features from the Alpha 9 III, such as Pre-Capture and an improved ergonomic design, all while maintaining a lightweight body weighing approximately 743 grams.
The Alpha 1 II delivers exceptional image quality with a combination of the 50.1 MP Exmor RS® stacked CMOS sensor and the BIONZ XR® image processing engine. It supports blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30 fps, capturing complex movements with up to 120 AF/AE calculations per second. The camera introduces Real-time Recognition AF, which tracks a wide range of subjects, including humans, animals, birds, insects, and vehicles. The new “Auto” feature further enhances subject recognition, automatically detecting the target subject.
For improved performance, the Alpha 1 II includes an anti-distortion shutter, reduced noise at mid-to-high sensitivities, and enhanced optical image stabilisation with up to 8.5 stops of compensation for still images. The camera’s new Dynamic Active Mode also supports stable video shooting.
The Alpha 1 II’s ergonomics have been improved for greater comfort and usability, including a 3.2-inch multi-angle LCD monitor and an updated grip design. For battery efficiency, the camera comes with a Dual-Battery Charger that charges two Z batteries in just 155 minutes. It also supports 2.5GBASE-T wired LAN for fast data transfer, and content can be automatically uploaded to Adobe Lightroom™ or Google Drive™ via Sony’s Creators’ Cloud.
The Alpha 1 II’s packaging is environmentally friendly, featuring no plastic and using Sony’s Original Blended Material, made from bamboo, sugarcane, and recycled paper.
The Alpha 1 II will be available in Malaysia in December 2024.
