Reports are surfacing on state of military coup in Turkey, as social media platform like Twitter, Facebook and Youtube have been blocked in the country. Military can be seen deployed in Istanbul, Angkara and tanks stationed at the Antartuk airport.
Twitter’s policy team shared “We suspect there is an intentional slowing of our traffic in country,” Twitter said in a statement posted in English and Turkish. Twitter’s livestreaming app Periscope and Facebook Live appeared unaffected, broadcasting several livestreams from Istanbul.
A group within the military is attempting to overthrow President Erdogans government and there is on going fighting at the cities. Turkey is no stranger to military coups and neither on blocking social media services in the country. Ironically Erdogan has taken on Facetime and Twitter to post comments on the current situation to his people.
