So Long and Thanks for All the Fish: PS3

Sony’s PS3 has officially ended production. The notice is up on Sony’s Japanese PlayStation website, was first spotted by Gematsu,

The note was tagged to the 500GB standard model, although prior to this it was noted that this is the only model that was left in production in Japan.

With PS4 and PS4 Pro gaining much popularity, some even speculated that a PS5 is not too far away from release, with predicted dates as soon as 2018.

First announced in November of 2006. Sony had previously promised to support the console for at least 10 years – they’ve certainly kept their promise.

Sony has managed to sell over 80 million units of the PS3 to date.

While the PS3 is no longer in production, gamers can still play on it. Hmm. We wonder any backward compatibility for games will be coming?
