Qualcomm has now announced the next-gen charging technology, Quick Charge 3 Plus, aimed at the masses. This new technology is the latest addition to the Quick Charge family, and comes with faster charging and affordability.
This new tech will be available first for the Snapdragon 765 and 765G, with the first phone to support the new charging technology being the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite Zoom. The Mi 10 Lite Zoom will also be the first to feature Quick Charge 3 Plus and Quick Charge 4 Plus, on the same device.
Other Snapdragon platforms across tiers will be receiving Quick Charge 3 Plus through 2020.
The reason Quick Charge 3 Plus is good (very good) news is because it focuses on super-fast charging, and retains the affordability aspect. They mention that with Quick Charge 3 Plus, devices can charge from 0-50 percent in about 15 minutes, making it 35 percent faster than previous generations. It also is 9 degrees Celsius cooler than the previous generation.
Quick Charge 3+’s power output uses 20B and 3A up to 60W.
The biggest deal about this whole new charging tech, is the fact that Quick Charge 3+ will support industry standard USB-A to USB-C cables and accessories that support scalable voltage with 20mV steps from Quick Charge 4. Meaning, even cheaper, affordable devices with USB-A connectors can experience fast-charging if they’re also sporting Qualcomm’s platforms.
Quick Charge 3+ is also backward compatible with previous-gen Quick Charge devices, and newer devices can work with Quick Charge 3+ accessories. Which means, more flexible charging experiences.
Hopefully, we’ll seem more Qualcomm platforms supported in the coming months to finally say good riddance to slow charging on any modern-day smartphone.
