Singapore Land and Transport Authority is working closely with UK based Delphi Automotive and Singapore based nuTonomy to trial autonomous cars on the streets of the city state.

Delphi will provide a fleet of fully autonomous vehicles and will develop a cloud-based mobility-on-demand software (AMoD) suite,  that can open up new potential autonomous markets for customers. The vehicles will be set on trial at an urban, point-to-point, low-speed, autonomous, mobility-on-demand service in Singapore’s Autonomous Vehicles Test Bed located at one-north, a business park in the western area of the city.

LTA’s Chief Executive Mr Chew Men Leong meanwhile said: “LTA has been facilitating self-driving vehicle trials with single-vehicle prototypes in one-north since 2014. We are excited about the role that fleets of shared SDVs can play in our transport system and are pleased to collaborate with Delphi Automotive Systems and nuTonomy to test and develop meaningful point-to-point mobility solutions that would benefit commuters. If successful, we will be able to deploy these services in various towns to serve commuters, bringing us another step closer to achieving our car-lite vision.”

The Singapore LTA pilot program will last for three years with plans to transition into an operational service by 2022 timeframe. Other pilots are planned by Delphi for locations in North America and Europe in the future.
