Before we begin, it’s important to note that Hackintoshes aren’t exactly legal. You’re basically ‘borrowing’ Apple’s MacOS and installing it into regular PC hardware. Do not do this unless you’re clear on the legal consequence
A Hackintosh is basically a regular PC that runs on MacOS/OSX. The advantages:
- If you’re easily distracted by games on a Windows PC, this cuts out more than half of your typical Steam library
- Even in this less-than-ideal form, it’s more stable than Windows 10. Hardware-induced crashes are rare, and the system handles limited resources better
- MacOS is beautiful, uncluttered and programs like FCP and iMovie are simple but powerful
The disadvantages:
- It’s not always easy to install. You need the right hardware, to follow the guidebook, and a bit of luck. And you also need access to a device that’s already running MacOS/OSX
- Your external and internal storage in NTFS format cannot be written to, only read. Consider your strategy for storage wisely
- You might have trouble with Windows if you don’t remove your bootloader correctly. One of my PCs still doesn’t recognize Windows 10 and the motherboard BIOS insists that MacOS is somewhere in there. Strangely enough, Windows 7 works fine.
- It’s illegal, and this should NOT be your first Mac experience as you’ll have a hard time
