You can now share where *exactly* you are from Facebook Messenger. Facebook just announced Live Location, allowing for friends to see where your blue dot is on the map.

According to the blog post by Selena Wang, Product Manager for Messenger, Facebook has been testing this feature, with positive user feedback. “People tell us that Live Location is helpful when trying to coordinate with friends, telling people how close you are when you’re on your way to an appointment, or even sharing where you are with your roommate when you’re on your way home at night.”

Users are in control of when to share and how much to share. There are options to share Live Location with groups of friends or with a single person. Although Live Location is generally on for 60 minutes, users can choose to stop sharing at any moment. A clock will show how long left on the timer for sharing location on the lower right hand corner of the map.

Users can tap the Location icon or tap the More icon and then select Location, where you can see a map of your current location and the option to tap a blue bar to share your Live Location. The people you choose to share location with will be able to track your movements for the next 60 minutes.

On iOS, there is also an ETA, where you can see how long it will take you to reach the location by car.

Sharing your location in a Messenger conversation is completely optional. Facebook reassures that users have full control. This functionality will be rolling out globally and will be available on both Android and iOS.
