Since their reveal, loads of hype for the mini Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and its Super NES successor came about; Sega wants to cash in on that and, thusly, put out an official mini variant Sega Mega Drive. Indeed, this is the real deal.

What Sega did to reveal the official mini variant Sega Mega Drive isn’t a tease; nor does it offer much to talk about. Instead, Sega just gives it some airtime on stage; two to three minutes tops. While it’s a bit of a let-down, this major mic-drop did confirm a few things.

First, the true name for the official mini variant Sega Mega Drive: Sega Mega Drive Mini. It’s a codename for the time being. Persumably, it’ll be Sega Genesis Mini eventhough Sega Japan itself calls it Mega Drive Mini.

Second, it’s very tiny. The  official mini variant Sega Mega Drive is just slightly larger than a regular hand with palm. It’s also a little thicker than a 20,000mAh power bank.

Third, it will launch in Japan first, specifically sometime in 2018. Other than these three points, no further details has come to light.

If anything, this is a step up from the collaboration Sega put together with Atgames last year. Here’s to hoping it’ll be address the itch fans have had since Nintendo took the plate and bat a huge home-run.
