We have talked about how Verizon bought over Yahoo for USD 4.8 billion recently, and they have gotten the approval of the regulatory bodies on the sale. Now the parent company has just announced that the brands Yahoo and will be merged together to be a new brand, called Oath.
As stalwarts of the internet industry, the name Yahoo and AOL garnered alot of respect during its heyday, with majority of the users out there (in the US at least) using AOL as their platform to connect to the internet, and Yahoo as their main email gateway. The combination of the two brands into one marks a big change in the industry, as the two companies saw themselves struggle to be relevant again. This is especially since the disastrous data leaks that Yahoo faced in the last 18 months, as well as the shrinking subscriber base that faces AOL.

We may see Oath Mail and the Oath Search engine soon if the full rebranding is complete – or Verizon may just keep the name of the search engine as per status quo. We shall wait and see soon.
