From December 1 2019, a bunch of devices will no longer be supporting Netflix. This sadly, include Samsung devices, and Netflix are saying it’s because of “technical limitations” as the reason for the loss of support, but they didn’t exactly specify what those limitations are. But it seems the ability to auto-play episodes has an effect on that support. Well, more so if your device can’t auto-play episodes more like. On the list of devices that are getting the cut, it includes a bunch of Roku devices, along with older Samsung TVs. So if you’re like me, and have an ancient TV (which isn’t a Smart one btw), you’re out of luck.
The worst part about all this is that the lack of information from Netflix on why these devices are losing support. They literally just posted a paragraph saying, oh, we’re not gonna support these devices anymore. Samsung has put up a page telling you what’s what, so check out what they had to say here;
“Although some of our older TV’s (2010 and 2011 models, with C or D after the screen size in the model code) will no longer support Netflix directly beginning December 1st, 2019, many other devices you may have connected to your TV are still supported.”
The weird part is, we don’t even have a full list of the devices that are losing support. But here’s what we do know aren’t going to be able to run Netflix natively after December 1st:
Roku
- Roku 2000C
- Roku 2050X
- Roku 2100X
- Roku HD
- Roku SD
- Roku XD
- Roku XR
- Any other Roku devices that can’t auto-play the next episode
Samsung TVs
As Samsung said above, 2010 and 2011 TVs with a C or D in the model code will lose support. Check out the link here to see their support page to find your TV’s code.
Probably best to find a replacement if you’re affected by this. Damn that sucks.
