We typically use styluses for for writing, drawing, and navigating menus. That looks to change soon for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 as its S-Pen now uses Bluetooth integration.

A recent FCC filing reveals that the S-Pen will add Bluetooth support. 2.4GHz Bluetooth LE connectivity should open up many options outside from a typical digital pen. Droid Life spotted the S-Pen’s model number in the FCC filing.

Apart from our expectations of a remote control, leaker Ice Universe tweets that the S-Pen could also feature a wireless Bluetooth speaker. It may also control the streaming of music and operate a self-timer. Sadly, the integration of Bluetooth LE features would mean a thicker device, since the pen will need space for a battery. In any case, these features seem rather useful and it will be interesting to see the device in action.

A proper reveal will be hosted on 9th August 2018, during Samsung’s next Unpacked event. Along with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, you can expect the S-Pen to also carry the event. It is, after all, featured on Samsung’s invitation.
