Samsung may not have had the best of years in terms of their smartphone line with the total disaster that was the launch of the Galaxy Fold and all, but the company actually didn’t do too badly when it came to the sale of 5G devices. Samsung managed to register a total of 6.7 million 5G devices sold and thats split between just two models, the Galaxy S10 5G and the Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G.

At first glance, the figure may not seem like much but it’s worth noting that it is actually more than what Samsung expected to sell for 5G models. By IFA 2019, which happened in September 2019, Samsung had only mustered up a total of 2 million 5G units sold and had expected to close 2019 with a total of 4 million. So 6.7 million is much better than expected, especially considering that the 5G market is still in its infancy.

This year is all set to be a huge year for 5G smartphones, with Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 processor coming with 5G support, our guess is flagship devices in 2020 will all pretty much come with some sort of 5G capability. Top that off with plans by carriers for a widespread roll out of 5G and you can fully expect people to really buy into this whole 5G thing
