Although it is now confirmed Samsung will not be unveiling the S8 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year, the atmosphere at the blue booths in the halls of the largest telecommunication conference in Europe is not going to be quite after all.
Samsung Electronics has announced that it will showcase four innovative Creative Lab (C-Lab) projects, delivering a broad spectrum of experiences via Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) at the event. C-Lab is an internal venture incubation program that was set out to encourage a creative corporate culture that will nurture innovative ideas within Samsung employees. This year the lab will showcase using Gear VR to aid the visually impaired, Relumino works as a mobile app that can enhance visuals and texts and even enable visually challenged to enjoy watching TV.
Another solution allows users to use a PC without the need for a monitor, MonitorLess takes advantage of VR and AR technology to project a monitor like screen on a special pair of glasses, contents can then be consumed this way. On the home decor and travel front, by using Gear VR consumers can virtualy set furnitures in their living hall without purchasing the item as of yet, but visualise them as if they are there, using the VuildUs app. traVrer is an app that takes users to any part of the world virtually, expriencing the city and land before even buying a flight ticket.
Samsung is using MWC as a platform to have visitors imagine the possibility of using VR to expand the horizon of this nascent technology.
