Rumours: Apple News Subscription

A preview of an Apple News subscription service was embedded in a developer’s build of iOS 12.2. The subscription service provides access to newspapers and magazines – for a monthly fee. This is in line with The New York Times report from last October that reported Apple is close to launching its own subscription service inside the News app, and it builds on Apple’s acquisition of a digital magazine subscription service called Texture, which was billed as the “Netflix of magazines,” earlier 2018.

The splash page shows that the service could be called “Apple News Magazines”. Payment is made via the iTunes store. For now, there is no information on pricing or launch dates.

There were rumours that Apple is working on an all-in-one subscription service that bundles its news and magazine service with Apple Music as well.

Apple News is only available in the US, UK and Australia for the time being.
