In the latest news on mergers and acquisition, popular food delivery service foodpanda has been acquired by Rocket Internet owned Delivery Hero. Adding to its burgeoning span of online businesses, Rocket owners of Zalora, Lazada (sold to Alibaba recently) and significant others in on a mission to build the largest internet platform outside US and China.
The transaction will add to Delivery Hero’s strength in the food delivery business which already processes over 20 million orders per month across 47 countries. Foodpanda operates in 22 countries including Malaysia with market leading positions in 17 of them. The acquisition will enable Delivery Hero to consolidate its market leadership position in the Middle East and adds 20 new countries in Eastern Europe, MENA and Asia to the platform.
Food Panda has a host of brands under the repertoire including local restaurant operators like Old Town, Dragon i, Hakka Restaurant, Passage Thru India including internationals like Starbucks, Kenny Roasters, Nando’s and Chili’s.
