Review: The Ultimate MSI GE62VR Apache Pro

With NVIDIA rolling out its GTX 10 Series graphic cards only a couple of months back, MSI is the first gaming brand to actually introduced the latest graphic cards into its gaming laptops. The MSI GE62VR is equipped with the GeForce GTX 1060 graphic card, allowing you to have game with exceptionally better graphics without experiencing any frame rate drops. Even running graphic heavy games like Skyrim and The Division was easy with the laptop capping at 50 FPS without breaking a sweat.

Virtualise Your Reality
Virtual reality (VR) is slowly becoming the norm when it comes to advanced technology these days; gaming is no different with VR slowly taking over the gaming industry as well. Thanks to NVIDIA and its VR-ready GTX 10 Series graphic cards, the GE62VR is capable of running VR-compatible games to give gamers an experience like never before. Now you can live the life of video games instead of just looking through the display.

Dota 2 Works Wonders!
Being an insanely huge fan of the popular MOBA game developed by Valve, I tested out the GE62VR for Dota 2 and it works wonders. Even after setting my graphics to the maximum and turning on various in-game aesthetics to give the game a more playful and unique look, it still managed to cap between 50 – 60 FPS, which is pretty good for a gaming laptop.

Hear Everything
For Counterstrike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and Call of Duty (CoD) players, audio quality plays an impactful part in the gameplay. Even the softest of footsteps must be heard in order to gain a positional advantage over your enemies. Thanks to Nahimic 2, you can now hear anything from every direction and stay ahead of the curve. It also comes with a sound tracker, which will help you in determining where the sound came from thanks to its visual indication that can be adjusted to fit into your game without causing any disruption.

Perfect for Portable Gamers
If you are the type of gamer who actually attends LAN parties and gatherings on a daily basis or is comfortable gaming at just about anywhere then the GE62VR is the perfect gaming laptop to have as your ally. This gaming laptop however does come with a steep price of RM6,899, which can also get you a pretty decent customised rig but without the portability. Although considered pricey by many, it is ultimately worth its weight in terms of price as the GE62VR is arguably one of the best gaming laptops that is currently in the market. 5 Point Analysis

Powered by SteelSeries (Point 1)
The multi-colour backlit keyboard on the GE62VR is powered by SteelSeries, who are particularly famous for its mechanical keyboards and gaming peripherals

True to life Imagery (Point 2)
When gaming, web browsing or catching up on your Netflix shows, the IPS-level display on the GE62VR provides vivid and crystal clear images from the moment you power it up to when you shut it down.

Stream Your Gameplay (Point 3)
Thanks to XSplit Gamecaster v2, you can now stream your live gameplay through the built-in webcam on the GE62VR instead of having to use a third-party application or product.

Quick and Easy Data Transfer (Point 4)
With two Type-A USB3.0 ports and one Type-C USB3.1 port to work with, you can now plug in more devices while having quicker data transfer than ever before.

Fan Boost Key (Point 5)
Located right next to the power button, the GE62VR comes with a fan boost feature that allows you to boost the performance while still keeping the laptop cool for long hours.

First Impression
*gasp* It comes with the GTX 1060? I have got to test it out right this instant

4 Hours
At least I know this laptop can last close to five hours on a single charge when I’m just watching Netflix.

12 Hours
After six games of Dota 2 followed by a quick session of Skyrim, I have to say, the graphics are superb.

24 Hours
Although not as portable as my current gaming laptop (it’s a Razer Blade), MSI has gone above and beyond with this one.
