Impressively Sleek

Upon pulling the Avita LIBER out of the box, the first thing to catch my attention is how sleek it looks. Clearly taking inspiration from other ultra-portables, the Avita LIBER is certainly easy to carry around. One of the more outstanding features is the over-sized touchpad. Personally, the backlit keyboard is a nice touch, especially when I need to work in locations with bad lighting. The screen is pretty good for movie-binging too.

Uninspiring Specs

Under the hood, Avita stuffed in 8GB RAM into this laptop. That, alone is very surprising for something at this price; that is until I found out that it’s DDR3 RAM. While not noticeable initially, the last-gen RAM shortfall is detectable whenever I’m multitasking. The lack of a discrete GPU also means this is a work and lifestyle laptop; even with low settings, I only managed an average of 30fps on Dota 2.

Mediocre Start

It’s never easy trying to break into an already saturated mid-range laptop market. For the Avita LIBER, its first attempt at doing so is decent at best. The large mousepad, while amusing, often gets in the way when typing, leading to random right-clicks. Launching a laptop in 2018 with DDR3 RAM is another strange decision from Avita. Overall, it’s useful students or those who travel often for work.

Verdict: It won’t run too many games, but if you need a basic and portable laptop for cheap, the Avita LIBER is one to consider.
