Research Made Easier; TM R&D Contributes Equipment To Local Universities

More good news to local universities as TM R&D contributes equipment to help research and development.

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is giving away pre-owned research equipments and materials to local universities through TM Research & Development.

The contribution will not only rehome high-tech equipment but to also help increase students’ interest in science and technology in order to produce high-skilled labor for the job market.

CEO Dr Sharlene Thiagarajah believes that this initiative is important to elevate Malaysia as a Digital Nation by exposing students to research equipment.

“We hope this shall complement the theoretical studies in the classroom. This encapsulates our strategic role as a catalyst in grooming an industry forward talent pool, which is a key component in driving the nation’s digital aspiration”, she said.

The initiative began last November, where technology-related equipment and materials were distributed to four (4) local universities namely Multimedia University (MMU), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in their respective Faculty of Engineering.

Dr Sharlene added that TM R&D are happy to support TM Group’s Corporate Responsibility (CR) focus to empower students through innovation and technology.

Not only that, TM R&D also contributed to the Technology Industry Division of the Malaysian Nuclear Agency cleanroom consumables such as gloves, lab coats, masks and equipment.

To help fight Covid-19, TM R&D has also developed and deployed a contactless temperature screening solution for Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) called EWAR (Early Warning, Alert & Response) at various business premises, mosques, schools to ensure the safety of their visitors and staff.

The innovations of TM R&D, all developed in-house cutting across multiple verticals such as Telco, Retail , Logistics, Agriculture, Healthcare and Education with the highest priority being safety and productivity. As the organisation continues to expand beyond connectivity and into new digital and smarter value-added platforms, its role in TM has become increasingly prominent and exciting.
