What was previously know under the code name of Redstone 3, it now has a not so original, but easy to understand name – the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
It was revealed in Microsoft’s Build Conference and here is what we’ve found out from other news sources.
PCWorld did a very comprehensive view on this. Although there are no specific dates, the update is said to be released late this year. According to PCWorld’s report, there are 4 key features:
- Timeline, which allows you to capture everything you were doing at a given moment in time on a PC
- “Pick up where you left off,” which allows you to take your work on Windows 10 to the related app on iOS and Android
- Clipboard, which allows you to take clips from a variety of devices and access them on your PC
- OneDrive Files on Demand, which apparently bridges the gap between storing large files on OneDrive, yet being able to access them when you want.
Story Remix – an app that will automatically combine photos and videos together with a soundtrack, theme, and cinematic transitions – some thing like creating a video from Google Photos.
Microsoft will add SuSE Linux and Fedora Linux as part of the Windows Linux subsystem, available via the Windows Store. All the new features will be presented with a subtle interface change known as the Fluent Design System, previously called Project Neon.
PCWorld wrote: “If you’re expecting Microsoft’s new Project Neon or Fluent Design to be a grand remaking of the Windows interface, you’ll be disappointed—Microsoft’s words, not ours.”
Looks like on the Fluent Design side, we are looking at more subtle updates. According to Microsoft, though, utility, not aesthetics, will rule the Fall Creators Update. Expect the operating system to evolve as Microsoft continues to roll out Windows Insider builds until the eventual launch.
