After just 2 days of launching Razer Pay in Malaysia together with Berjaya Group, CEO Min Liang-Tan was pleased to announce that 300, 000 users have signed up for the new cashless mobile payment service.
Razer pay is the latest ewallet service provider to start service in the country since acquiring Berjaya owned MOL pay. Initially offering online credit for gamers, Razer has now taken bold steps to grow its business big in the fintech space. Most tech company’s are viewing mobile wallet as the next trail to blaze with giants like Alibaba and Tencent already making headway. In China alone the market size for ewallet grew to US$9 trillion compared to US$112 billion in 2016.
Over 11,000 transactions were made by first-time Razer Pay users at Berjaya Group stores such as 7-Eleven and Starbucks, generating over RM110,000 worth of donations to the Tabung Harapan Fund by the Berjaya Group as mentioned by Chairman Vincent Tan.
As part of the introduction, users who sign up will receive RM10 bonus credits which can be used at all the Berjaya listed outlets like Starbucks or over-the-counter purchases from 7-Eleven. however, the bonus credits cannot be used for other services such as in-app purchases of Mobile PIN reloads, game PINs and entertainment services.
The total bonus credits are capped at RM5 million, so there are less than 200,000 sign-ups available before the launch promotion ends.
Participating outlets that accept Razer pay – 7-Eleven, Starbucks, Singer, Cosway, Greyhound Café, Wendy’s, Kenny Rogers, and Krispy Kreme.
