Portable, Audible And Affordable: Viewsonic M1+_G2 Review

Long overdue but again, better late than never. So, last year, we unboxed a really cool projector which is the Viewsonic M1+_G2 which caught us (especially me) by surprise and you can watch the video on our YouTube channel. It’s somewhat chaotic. I’ve also done a small review video which you can watch as you scroll down.

But if you want to know more, then here’s what the written review is for. Like all our reviews, we’ll be looking at design, usability, performance, pricing and I’ll give you my final thoughts in the end. So without any further ado, let’s get into the review.

Being a portable projector, I love how they implemented usability into the Viewsonic M1+_G2. I love how the lens cover works both as a stand and something to hang the projector on. The smart stand enables a full 360-degree setup while doubling as a lens cover which when uncovered, the projector will automatically turn itself on.

When it comes to portability, the M1+_G2 is very lightweight at less than 1 kg and you can definitely bring it with you wherever you go. You can use for your office, travelling or you can even use it for an outdoor movie set up with your friends. Eitherway, it won’t be a hassle to bring the projector everywhere.

Other than the smart stand, the incorporate speakers onto the body of the projector as well instead of the speakers being at the back of the speakers. The M1+_G2 is equipped with dual Harmon Kardon speakers that deliver vibrant treble, balanced mids, and strong bass for an all-around immersive experience whether you’re watching movies, music videos or listening to a live concert.

Usability and Connectivity

Setting up the projector didn’t take too long. When the projector is turned on and projecting the interface or settings onto the screen, you will find a QR code there for you to download an app which is not necessarily compulsory for you to do so from my experience.

You can use the projector just as fine without the app if you are have good internet and bluetooth connection which I did most of the time. The M1+_G2 does have screen mirroring so whatever you have being shown on your device such as your phone, it will also be projected on screen from the projector itself.

The M1+_G2 does come with a remote for you to choose your settings and fill in any needed information. If you have a smart TV at home, then the interface of the projector will not be foreign to you. It works similarly as a smart TV interface and you can even download any available and compatible apps such as Netflix from the projector’s app store.

Image and Video Quality

I have to be honest, I wasn’t expecting the image quality of the M1+_G2 to be all that great because it is a portable projector but I was extremely surprised by how actually HD it is. It definitely looked like I was watching a TV screen than a projector which makes the viewing experience much more enjoyable and immersive.

You can see for yourself from these photos I took as well as from the review video above. I can assure that in real life, the quality is really, really good. I even tested out with gaming from my phone onto the screen and I find it enjoyable so let’s say you have friends over and want to see you gaming from your phone or laptop, then you connect them to the M1+_G2 and everyone will get to see your gaming experience.

Harmon Kardon Speakers

Now I bet you’re wondering how the sound quality is, right? The dual Harmon Kardon speakers on the M1+_G2 did not disappoint. I was quite impressed with the quality. You won’t need to worry about not having another speaker to connect the projector to for better sound quality.

The Harmon Kardon speakers on the projector are definitely enough for you to enjoy whatever it is you’re viewing. Even at full volume, there was no distortion whatsoever so you can definitely watch your favourite horror movies or concerts without worrying about bad sound quality.

Final Thoughts

I should clarify from the review video that it was the pre-order price that was less RM800 but the retail price is still affordable at RM 1,499.00 which I know can be a little pricey for some but with everything you are getting from the projector, we think it’s a good investment.

So overall, my week with the Viewsonic M1+_G2 has been great. I watched a few of my favourite movies and anime and I even gamed using this projector. If you want a portable, convenient yet really good quality projector then I believe this is the one for you.
