Niantic recently announced and introduced a new item, a ‘Remote Raid Pass’, that allows players to raid from home.
The way it works is pretty straightforward. Any player who has a Remote Raid Pass will be able to join any raid that is listed on their Nearby list or at Gyms they can tap.
Like any Raid Pass, players can only use one per raid, with a set limit on how many they can hold in their inventory.
Up to 20 players can join a raid, though there’ll be a limit to how many with a Remote Raid Pass can join. Niantic has assured remote raids still counts toward any raid-related research task or achievement medals.
When it launches, players will deal the same amount of damage as they do with a regular Raid Pass. Afterwards, however, those who raid remotely will deal less damage than ones who raid regularly.
While it isn’t clear yet what the set limit of players who can raid remotely is, Niantics says they’ll make future adjustments to allow more players from home to join.
It also teased a feature to allow players to invite friends to raid remotely, regardless of where they are.
The Remote Raid Pass will be available to buy in the shop individually for a ‘special’ price of 100 PokéCoins. Niantic also mentions there will be a 1 PokéCoin bundle that will have the pass in the near future.
Added measures for better home play
Aside from remote raiding, there are other updates that make remote play more rewarding for players, too.
For one, players will soon get a bonus task every day without the need to spin a PokéStop. These tasks focus on activities that players can do from home.
If you happen to have three Field Research Tasks already, then it will create a fourth slot. If you happen to have four slots on your screen instead, then you’ll miss the bonus task for the day.
As for Gifts, your Buddy Pokémon will help get Gifts from PokéStops and Gyms when you’re running low. A Buddy Pokémon of any level will be able to do this.
Niantic also mentioned other updates, including powering up your Pokémon to its maximum in one go, activating multiple bonus items at once, polished battle screens and notifications from the shop.
Players can expect this update to come soon, either within a few days or in the next week or so.
