Using playlists as a means of distraction and escapism during these trying times
With the Covid-19 virus well and truly making its rounds, tens of thousands of people around the world are having to adjust to life in quarantine. Having nothing to do and all, I suppose the general sentiment is to create a playlist to fit the mood, and that’s exactly what people around the world are doing.
From the straightforward titled “Songs to listen to when you’re in quarantine for the coronavirus” to “melodic future bass songs that make me forget about coronavirus,”, people are really tapping into their creative banks to not only come up with titles for their playlists, but also to fill it up with Covid-19 themed songs.
Our favourite of the bunch is without a doubt “COVID-19 quarantine party”, created by some genius that goes by the name of Alastair Ryan. The playlist currently boasts over 70,000 followers and with a description that reads “bro want raid supermarket or not”, it’s hardly surprising.
The playlist is bang on hilarious, eluding a sense of resigned acceptance of the situation that’s unfolding with tracks such as “rather die young” by Beyonce, “You touch me, I touch you back” by Cailin Russo and “Senior citizen killing spree” by The Mutants Members Only Club.
Of course, there’s also the classics such as the Bee Gees “Stayin Alive” and Maroon 5’s “Harder to breathe” and more recent hits like Higher Brothers “Made in China” and Travis Scott’s “SICKO MODE” to keep things relevant.
2 weeks of quarantine may not sound like a lot, but given that we’re out of our homes almost every day (assuming you have a 9-5 job), staying at home all of a sudden for 14 consecutive days can put you through some pretty strenuous mental turmoil.
