Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj has come to an end on Netflix.
Minhaj broke the news on Twitter, saying, “I got to work with the best writers, producers, researchers, and animators in the game. My 2 babies were born and grew up with the show. TY to @Netflix and everyone who watched.”

The Peabody-winning comedy show explored the modern cultural and political landscape with Minhaj starring as the key comedic voice and personality at the helm of the weekly show. The programme used story-telling skills to investigate and inform audiences on the larger trends shaping the world.
The talk show pushed the envelope with its intrepid investigations into multi-mllion dollar scandals such as the 1MDB scandal and former PM, Najib Razak’s involvement. Inevitably, the show also pushed the wrong buttons in its pursuit of the truth and have had its fair share of censorship imposed on it by parent production company, Netflix. This censorship was seen when Netflix decided to pull an episode which Saudi Arabian officials said was overly critical of the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his alleged involvement in the murder of a journalist. Minhaj later criticised the streamer over its move to pull the episode. All said and done, whether the decision not to renew the show’s operation was made based on this unwillingness to “fall in line” is as of yet unknown.
As someone from a South East Asian background, it was really refreshing to see some representation on screen so it is deeply saddening to me and I believe a lot of Malaysians and Asians in general, to see this show come to such a premature end. With any luck, Hasan will find a home elsewhere. I hear “Ellen” is hiring :P.
