Over 600 Barbers And Hair Salons Issued Notices, Reasons Include Overcharging

Authorities have been doing their rounds checking on premises like barbers and hair salons if they are following SOP’s since permission were given for these outlets to resume operation. However, during their inspection they discovered some barbers have increased their service prices exorbitantly and have been issued notices.

Local council men have issued 633 notices to barbers and hair salon owners over miscellaneous incidents including price increase for haircuts and other services these centres provide. They have been given 3 to 5 days to respond, failing to do so they can receive a compound under the price control Act. We reported recently on Senior Minister Datuk Sabri Yaakob giving permission for barbers and hair salon operators to increase charges for haircut due to the additional expenses they will have to bear for purchases of safety equipment. This could set a precedent for others to hike their price as cost of operating has increased across all sectors. But some it may seem based on the high number of notices issued took advantage and increased their fees way above the accepted level.

Trade and Domestic Affairs Ministry has advised consumers to check for the price list before accepting the service, the ministry has also set a portal to check on price of goods which can give an indication of what an average cost should be. More inspection are under way, and those who plan to hike their charges to ridiculous levels should watch out, the uniform is coming!
