After OPPO drops its latest flagship – the OPPO Find X – during a global reveal, many have been asking when it will reach local shores all over the world. For Malaysia, that is none other than July 17 2018. There has been a week of hype before thanks to the press invite with teasers attached. Of course, the launch event did live up to expectations thanks to the classy and premium styling used all over the floor-space.

Let’s do a quick specs recap – the OPPO Find X rocks a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage. These power innards will work in tandem with the 6.42″ Full HD+ AMOLED panel. As for optics, the rear-facing shooter features a 16MP + 20MP Dual-Lens system while up-front is a 25MP snapper. Both sit on the motorised system that deploys when the camera app is fired up. Powering all that is a 3,730mAh battery.

All the hardware is packed inside a near completely glass body with a Panoramic Arc Screen on the front façade. This is a truly seamless design with no cutouts for the cameras, earpiece, or sensors. The almost all-screen panel offers 19.5:9 ratio for visuals and 93.8% screen-to-body design. More importantly, it comes in two shades that offer subtle yet classy reflective gradients: Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue.

There are other innovations on board the OPPO Find X. One of them, an aspect that OPPO is proud of, is the Stealth 3D Cameras. Beyond the motorised slider that these shooters are parked on, there is a proper 3D Facial Recognition system on the front lens. This innovation, which replaces the fingerprint sensor completely as the primary security feature, uses 3D Structured Light Technology and 15,000 Facial Dot Recognition Projector. Both are necessary to capture a 3D scan of the user’s face.

Of course, this being a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 powered smartphone, there is some level of artificial intelligence present. Both camera and battery consumption will engage this feature.

While this flagship entry is impressive, there are some major concerns to consider. With the motorised system used for camera deployment, that means the OPPO Find X cannot be IP rated. Furthermore, there are no cases that can fully protect the device since the pop-up system cannot be blocked. If there is something in the way, the cameras will not pop up.

Interesting points that came to light at the launch: the OPPO Find X will be Android P Beta ready and come with optimisations that OPPO developed with the Google Game Engine.

According to OPPO, pre-orders for the OPPO Find X are open from  17 July 2018. Those keen on purchasing this RM3,699 device can make their bookings on the OPPO Online Store or at Lazada, 11street, and Shopee. This all-new flagship will be available from 5 August 2018.
