WWDC is Apple’s yearly event that showcases all the latest technological advancements made from the most popular fruit. One of the new technologies to come out of WWDC is ARKit, the software development kit. Working in conjunction with the camera and sensors built into the iPhone and iPad, ARKit is capable of projecting augmented reality (AR) on the screen of the device that users can interact with.
While a demo was showed during the developer’s conference, a new real-world example has appeared in the form of a video made by need, a brand consulting agency based in France.
As you can see from the video, the virtual reality (VR) can be seen through a door, which pops up in the real world – we presume somewhere near the agency’s office. Once the person holding the device steps through the door, the environment changes into the virtual world, and the real-world dissolves away. The user can then interact with the virtual world on a whole new level.

While both VR and AR are not considered new technological advancements anymore, mobile AR is gaining traction as the ARKit works exclusively on the iOS platform. This would provide a new way of interaction in terms of content and environment as the mobile nature of a smartphone means AR content is now on-the-go.
