New Garmin Buoy Enables Real-Time Diver Tracking And Communication

Garmin has introduced the Descent S1 Buoy, a new diving safety device that enables real-time tracking, monitoring and communication between divers and surface crews up to 100 metres underwater.

The buoy, which works with Garmin’s dive computers and the Descent T2 transceiver, allows surface teams to monitor diver depth, tank pressure and location, and send preset messages such as recalls if needed. Divers using compatible devices can also message the surface and each other, including alerts on decompression time or location changes.

Connected divers can view distance and direction to the buoy for safer surfacing, while post-dive heatmaps are accessible via the Garmin Dive app.

With a 15-hour battery life and Wi-Fi connectivity up to 60 metres, the IPX8-rated device is designed for extended use across diving operations. Retailing at RM10,879, the Descent S1 will be available in August through authorised Garmin outlets and platforms.
