New Fate Game Continues Popular Fate/EXTELLA Storyline

As always, Japan and those who have access to Japanese games get the latest and greatest for games; case in point the popular Fate/EXTELLA beat’em up series. The newest entry, Fate/EXTELLA Link, will continue the Fate/Extra storyline after it makes its Japanese debut this year.

To commemorate this confirmation and milestone, the official opening video is now live for all to see. While there is now a release date for Japan, there are no details on a worldwide release as yet.

This is a direct follow up to equally as popular Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star that launched globally last year. Furthermore, it is the immediate sequel as the narrative picks up from the previous entry; thus, making this the third installment for the game series. New additions include another 10 new legendary heroes for the fighter roster, expanding the original 16 to 26. Latest inclusions are Astolfo (Fate/Apocrypha) and Francis Drake (Fate/Extra) just to name a few.

Ensuring the hype-train runs long and far, game developer Marvelous reveals a new Ruler-Class Servant joining the fighter ranks; he goes by the name of Karl der Grosse, better known as Charles the Great of the Franks. Oddly, he is the ‘other Charlemagne’. He is, likely, the Final Boss. Most noteworthy will be his story as; just like the other characters, he too has a complex plot due to his origin.

Of course, this being a new game, the fighting mechanics for single-player receives some tweaks along with improved graphics. There is now a multiplayer mode too that offers four-on-four online battles. Those keen on narratives can also engage in conversations with servants and uncover their respective backstories via side missions. Finally, just like before, the older plot drivers from the previous Fate/EXTELLA games carry over into this game as well.

As per previous Fate/EXTELLA titles, this new game will appear exclusively on the Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation Vita. Take note, the online play feature is only for the PS4.
