We are familiar with Netgear and their networking products but not many know the company acquired a digital frame company, Meural Canvas and is now in the art business or close to it.

A smart photo frame, Meural screens are equipped with state of the art technology that is designed to bring painting and images to life using built in software features. As part of its expansion of instrisic collection of visual work, the company is working with National Geographic to bring the amazing photographs from the worlds best into the living rooms.

Nat Geo photographer Steve McCurry (you might know him from his ubiquitous Nat Geo cover portrait, “Afghan Girl”) once said: “The photograph is an undeniably powerful medium. Free from the constraints of language, and harnessing the unique qualities of a single moment frozen in time.”

The agreement brings 500 revolving photographs to the Meural Art Library over the course of two years, and features curated selections from several branches of Nat Geo’s archive, including the  Nat Geo Photo Ark Project, and their repositories of iconic and vintage images.

Using the  patented TrueArt technology, including matte, anti-glare display, the digital frame is able to produce a hyper-realistic art viewing experience that tricks the eye into perceiving the depth, texture, and color of a photographic print. The Meural Canvas is controllable by gesture (a wave of the hand), voice (Amazon Alexa), or the mobile app. Malaysians will soon be able to purchase the models, locally distributed by Kaira Technologies.
