Netflix and Lepak

As Netflix is one of the more popular streaming services around, its normal to consume its content through various means and devices. Be it smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles and smart TVs, Netflix determines that TV is still the primary viewing choice for Malaysian consumers as well as across Asia Pacific. Netflix also points out the rise in TV streaming, with 56% of viewing hours in Malaysia and 61% across Asia Pacific through connected TVs.

With that, we were invited to attend Netflix’s #TheNetflixHome event over the Causeway to see what else it had to offer.

Taking up the theme of “home” quite literally, each room is the guesthouse was decorated in some of Netflix’s most popular shows, featuring the likes of Stranger Things, The Punisher and Puss in Boots. Also displayed around the house was LG’s latest OLED 4K TV in abundance, telling the different elements that makes Netflix… well, Netflix.

The TVs were used to feature both Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, which are used in Netflix’s upcoming Original film, Bright as well as The Punisher, the latest Netflix Original Series by Marvel. The LG TV’s were also used to showcase other innovations and features Netflix has to offer. One of it was in its Kid’s segment, which now comes with an interaction element.

With Puss in Boots used as a prime example, viewers now have a say in certain Kids movies. This gives them a chance to decide what Puss does in the following scene instead of having it play it as normal. This creates a new form of interaction between Netflix and viewers, giving them more freedom than ever.

Also at the event was Chris Jaffe, Vice President of Product Innovation at Netflix. “As entertainment shifts online, consumers are discovering that they have more control over their viewing experiences than ever before. What they’re looking for today is choice, quality and greater flexibility, and these demands are driving new trends that are shaping the future of entertainment.”

To top off the day, we were given a special sneak peek of episode one of The Punisher, which is expected to air on 17 November 2017. For obvious reasons, we’re not allowed to talk about it until its official air date. But we can say this; The Punisher is worth watching.
