Ah..the benefits of having data analytics and discovering insights you would have never otherwise known before. Now we know Malaysians like their Nasi Lemak, but when Uber got into the food delivery business with the launch of UberEats, the highest number of order for the type of food it was Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng that took the crown. Available in Bangsar and Hartamas area, the delivery service recorded the favourite meal being the most popular among citizens in the area.
Digital businesses are able to generate statistics and information from the data they gather, this enables the company to refine and try to offer the best services or products for their customers. Uber is one of those who have mastered the skill, they have here shared some interesting anecdotes about Malaysians who used Uber and UberEats in 2017.
Karina Ali Noor, General Manager – Expansion, Uber Malaysia explains “Even as Malaysians have journeyed with Uber, Uber has journeyed with Malaysia. In 2017, Uber touched hundreds of thousands of lives in Malaysia: connecting them with the places, people, meals and experiences they love at the press of a button.”
Among the findings included a pattern where users tend to book a ride at 2:00PM, while Saturday was the most popular day to use Uber. Interestingly, the most popular day in 2017 to take use the service was 3rd October, which was also the peak of the rainy season. The data sent by drivers and passengers enables Uber to not only process and generate sensible information but it could also assist governments in working out traffic planning and help reduce cars on roads. In fact Uber together with Boston Consulting released a study noting the 91% of vehicles on roads can be taken off by adopting ride hailing service. That’s food for thought!
