With the 5G train at full speed, it turns out Vivo have been on board all along. The Chinese company was one of the few brands that had a booth worth visiting at MWC Shanghai. One could even say that the brand took centre stage at this years conference with their announcement of 120W Superfast charging technology and AR glasses.

That being said, the company also revealed their first smartphone entry into the 5G market with the IQOO 5G. The phone will officially be available starting Q3 2019.

So how does the phone look exactly? Well, the back of the device has a carbon fibre vibe to it encased in a plastic body. In other words, it looks pretty cool la. I have to say though, as with most phones these days, it’s still a fingerprint magnet. You’ll also find a triple camera setup on the back as well as the device branding on the lower left.

Under the hood, the phone will run on the flagship Snapdragon 855 chipset whilst utilising a Snapdragon X50 5G modem.

Its worth mentioning that the phone is still in development and the phone the company displayed at MWC 19 is merely a prototype. The final version is rumoured to have pressure sensitive triggers on the side for gaming, much like the Vivo IQOO gaming phone. Could it be the first 5G gaming phone in the market? Only time will tell.

With a 5G network, you get 5G applications and Vivo showcased a glimpse of the future through their eyes with the showcase of their 5G cloud gaming system, 5G screen mirroring and 5G EasyShare, all of which complete an ecosystem of smart living. What a time to be alive, huh?

We foresee this holistic approach to 5G as one that many will follow in the coming months, but with Vivo being one of the first to showcase how they’ll be rolling out 5G on a consumer level, the other players might just be left having to play catch up.
