The successor to the 5D Mark III might look like its earlier version but Canon has made much improvement on the specifications that will have enthusiasts nodding with agreement. Having used the 5D II for years, I truly love the way the series handles, the weight, balance and the ease of using this professional camera makes the 5D a suitable upgrade for any beginner. The III saw a stark improvement in technology with 22.3 megapixel but now the IV is coming full circle.
Canon Malaysia has sent out an invite for the upcoming launch of the new model on September 25, we cant wait to try this shooter out! The new model has been unveiled in the States -the price tag at this point on the official website states it will be $3499 ( just for the body) approximately RM16,000, hefty? The Mark III was below 10k!
First Impression
While we wait for the arrival, lets have a look at the build and specifications of the legacy model. Overall built has been made lighter by 60 grams from the Mark III but size looks the same. Whats new is the megapixel, Canon souped-up the full frame sensor to 30.4 megapixel and can now shoot videos in 4K. Focus accuracy has been improved with a refined 61-point AF system, something new to look forward to. Incorporated is the revolutionary Dual Pixel CMOS AF which gives quick, smooth auto focus for both video and the Live View shooting mode.
Connectivity, has been a bane of users in the past, Canon addresses this with not one but three different features NFC, GPS and WiFi, which will now give photographers ways to tag their images, or choose to send instantly, journalist and nature photographers will find this extremely useful. As for the LCD panel, the 3.2″ is now a touch screen. In terms of speed, this has been vastly improved with Canon’s DIGIC 6+ Image Processor, which provides continuous shooting at up to 7.0 fps. ISO is bumped up to 32,000, for full HD at 25,600 and 4K at 12,800.
Lens mount: the 5D Mark IV supports EF lens but excluded EF-S and EF-M, there is no indication on the kit lenses as of yet. There is a CF and SD storage slot for recording, users can choose either one, the camera will auto switch when one is full. Both cards records in RAW+JPEG, mRAW+JPEG, and sRAW+JPEG.
There’s the run down for now, we don’t expect the features to change much as Canon Malaysia will be importing the models directly from Japan with similar models shipped to the rest of the world. Possible difference will be the kit lens offered with the 5D Mark IV and the listing price, of course.
