Facebook decides who reads and watches what on its newsfeed, how the algorithm works is anyone’s guess and the social media network likes to keep it that way.
But publishers of content can see better days ahead with Facebook announcing its local news feature first introduced in US has been deployed globally. What this means is that people around the world will see more news on Facebook from local sources covering their current city and other cities.
With this update, local publishers who cover multiple news in nearby cities can reach audiences in those cities. How Facebook identifies these publishers as local is when more people within these cities start reading articles from the publishers domain. The expansion will also include others in nearby cities who might find the topic or article relevant to them.
News Feed, including news from sources that are trusted, informative and relevant to local communities will find itself on more users screens very soon. This could be how Facebook is looking to give back to publishers who have been losing for so long.
