At the recent Microsoft Surface event, Microsoft had a slew of announcements to make. Among the big ones included a reveal of the second generation of its huge touchscreen, called the Surface Studio 2.

Like its namesake implies, the Surface Studio 2 acts as a powerful creative studio. It comes with a host of features to support endeavours in graphic design, animation, photo editing, and more.

It features the same 4500×3000 28″ display as its older counterpart, but that’s not really the focus here. The quality of the display itself has been improved, featuring 39 per cent higher brightness, and 22 per cent more contrast.

In terms of graphics, the Surface Studio 2 packs an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB of dedicated GDDR5 or a GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5. Despite the fact that NVIDIA just recently revealed its next-gen Turing architecture, it looks like Microsoft is going ahead with the older Pascal technology anyway.

Microsoft has also decided to stick with a 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processor. Even so, the Surface Studio 2 does feature a handy 2TB SSD drive upgrade over the older model.

Some interesting features arriving with the device include the ability to transform handwriting into text, up to 4,096 levels of pressure and tilt sensitivity with the Surface Pen, and built-in Xbox wireless support.

The base model offers 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM for $3,499 (RM14,475). You can get 1TB and 32GB of RAM for $4,199 (RM17,371). Lastly, the 2TB storage and 32GB of RAM configuration goes for $4,799 (RM19,853). Goes without saying that this isn’t a cheap device, though it does look like a grand companion for creative workers.

The Surface Studio 2 will launch on 15th November 2018. Besides the Surface Studio 2, the company also announced the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2 at its event.
