The Microsoft Surface event took place at New York recently, where Microsoft unveiled updates and new additions to its line of products. The company kicked off its showcase with an introduction to the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2.
Surface Pro 6
The Surface Pro 6 is a refresh of Microsoft’s 2017 tablet and laptop hybrid, and features a prominent black matte. Another notable change is that it now uses an 8th Gen Intel processor over the previous 7th Gen chip.
Microsoft did not provide specifics on the chips being used, but did mention an overhauled internal design for cooling. This suggests that the device may use quad-core processors. This overhaul will naturally also lead to improved battery life, which Microsoft claims goes up to 13.5 hours.
As for what has stayed the same, the 12.3″ display, 770g weight, and 16GB RAM capacity remain untouched. Furthermore, connectivity still does not include USB-C ports.
The Intel Core i5 Surface Pro 6 will sell at the price of $899 (RM3,722) from 16th October 2018. There will be higher configurations, but none have been detailed yet. For now, there is no release date set for Malaysia.
Surface Laptop 2
Black seems to be the name of the game today, as the Surface Laptop 2 also features the same black matte finish. An updated version of the Surface Laptop 2, it features a new 8th Gen Intel processor, as well as double the original RAM from 4GB to 8GB. The keyboard has experienced improvements to have quieter typing than before.
The rest of the hardware looks to be unchanged, featuring the same 13.5″ display, a limited single USB 3.0 and DisplayPort, and 14.5 hours of battery life. Like the Surface Pro 6, it does not feature a USB-C port.
The Surface Laptop 2 will sell at the price of $999 (RM4,136) from 16th October 2018. No release date for Malaysia has been set.
