After a long gestation and seeding period, the holographic interface goggles from Microsoft has just been made commercially available outside US and Canada. This writer had the privilege to try out HoloLens when the gadget was first introduced and was thrilled with the experience apart from the nauseatic feeling I got afterwards which the handlers informed me will be addressed when launched.

That day has arrived, as what Redmond calls the world’s first self-contained holographic computer,will now be made available for preorder in Australia , France , Germany , Ireland , New Zealand and the United Kingdom , with devices starting to ship in late November.

Since the introduction, HoloLens has seen a huge interest among developers and commerial customers, the application is enormous, merging real world space with an imaginary one. With the commercial roll-out, new uses for the device could be discovered and potentially change the way we interact.

Microsoft has been on tours showcasing the mix reality device and mostly thrilled audience using Minecraft, but the company has also been working with multinational and Nasa on space exploration and discovery. An example how it was used, the OnSight project enables scientists to use HoloLens to “work on Mars” together, directly from their offices, allowing them a means to plan and, along with the Curiosity Mars Rover, conduct science operations on the Red Planet. This led to the opening of  “Destination: Mars” at the Kennedy Space Center where the public will have the opportunity to walk around the Red Planet.

Microsoft first announced HoloLens in January 2015 and shipped to developers and commercial partners in Canada and the United States on March 31, 2016 .
