21 October 2015 has been known as ‘Back to the Future’ (BTTF) day. It is the day when Marty McFly went to the future and got a glimpse of what it would look like. We may not have a lot of the things it predicted but one innovation is certainly no longer a fiction. Yesterday, Nike made a special delivery to BTTF main star, Michael J. Fox.
30 years ago, Nike was asked to collaborate with the makers of the BTTF films to imagine the sneakers of the future. The result was the Nike Mag, which reinvented conventional lacing method with a responsive lacing system that detects the wearer’s motions and adapts to provide comfort and support.
Mark Parker, Nike Inc. President and CEO, says that “By imagining the future, we create it. Product that comes alive, with on-demand comfort and support when you need, product that senses you and adapts to you is right around the corner.”
The 2015 Nike Mag will be available only by auction in the spring of 2016 and all the proceeds will go to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
