Our Prime Minister has given the green light for MCO to be further eased and now replaced with the Recovery Movement Order, which allows inter-state travelling and opening up of more economic sectors. This order will take effect from June 10 till 31 August.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin, addressed Malaysian after his last announcement 4 weeks ago on the country’s defense against Covid-19. His latest speech looks at easing movement and loosening more activities for Malaysians. This will include, non-contact sports, like cycling, fishing, physical exercise, domestic vacations, visiting parks, jogging and other social activities.
Celebrations and religious practices will also be allowed, but will be subjected to the respective religious bodies SOP’sa and sizes of each premises. Notably, the PM highlighted that mass gathering that involved huge crowd like football matches,concerts and even public swimming pools will still not be allowed. This is a precautionary viewpoint compared to Europe which already started football matches albeit without spectators. The loosening of nearly all sector will be closely watched by authorities, ensuring SOP compliance, Muhyiddin reminds the public the virus is still at large and we have to maintain vigilant at all times.
On the matter of schools and education institutions, he assured that they will be opened in stages however parents will have to wait for the education Minister to make the announcement very soon.
Pertaining to other social activities not listed to be opened like reflexology, gym, cinema, clubbing and karaoke, they will all be not permitted at this juncture as the government feels they are high risk and not ready to resume. Businesses in this sector expected to reopen after June 9 but will now have to fold back their plans. Other businesses that has been allowed can resort back to normal opening hours as pre-MCO, which means longer operating hours.
While many were expecting the MCO to be completely lifted, its also appropriate to keep some form of control over the potential outbreak. RMCO will give the Malaysian government a more pragmatic approach when easing the sector in phases, it also gives allowance to monitor the situation and move in quickly if any untoward incidents happens.
