In another sweeping move to regulate social media and the internet, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today has announced that it has decided to block websites that promote the upcoming Bersih 4.0 rally set to take place this Saturday. A media release has been sent by the agency with regards to the blocks stating that Bersih 4.0 will cause anxiety and worry among civil society and websites seen promoting this undesired rally will be immediately blocked.
Sites that could be in the list are those that promote, spread, information and encourage people to join the rally, MCMC has also accused the movement of propaganda against the government and creating negative image towards the country.The memo when on to add that Bersih 4.0 would threaten national security, public peace and safety, detriment economic stability and even disharmony peoples lives.
