What has been lately often spoken among groups in teh tarik stalls on Maxis ‘special’ offering, whereby if you’re from East Malaysia you will get a different rates for your 4G plan and a over the counter offer if you decide to port out of their service, has now surfaced on social media in a negative way. It was reported that Maxis was offering ‘special’ deals to consumers in East Malaysia when they sign up for 4G services while those in Peninsular who have been subscribing to the service for decades have not been offered. (read statement below) The telco arbitrates the offer was a promotional campaign in conjunction with its upgrade works in Sabah and Sarawak, while the idea was noble Maxis should not divide its customers by giving away special deals based on zones.
The other fiasco that’s simmering on social media right now is how the company admitted on this statement it released on its social platform that there are targeted campaigns designed for certain period of time and customers without the rest of the subscribers knowing. These are not blanket promotions and will not show up on any materials, they are also trial runs set-out to garner market feedback on new plans, but their customers are not buying it.
On Maxis’s Facebook page, the replies has been not so understanding, one customer felt cheated accusing the operator of giving better deals to new customers and those threaten to switch than those who have been loyal. Another claimed a RM68 plan for 5GB and unlimited calls is being given for those porting while current subscribers pay RM158 for the same plan.
Customer:
Arthur Ng Simply as we don’t accept this kind of excuse… As a loyalty customer to maxis for more than 10 years with good payment record m I entitled? No!! I’m paying more than RM250 a month and what I got? 5Gb data and “mature” coverage in Klang valley where always drop call and blind spot everywhere?! We feel like being cheated like what scandal in government now…. F!
Maxis Official Statement:
You may have read of an exaggerated Maxis save offer in a local web forum that has been circulating recently when it was first posted on 9 March 2016. We just want to say that this save offer does not exist in the way it was described.
As with any company that has good data on customers, we often design and run targeted campaigns based on factors such as tenure, types of services used, payment history and many more. These targeted campaigns are to ensure that customers get to try out the varied services and plans that Maxis offers.
Sometimes Maxis uses offers to stimulate trial of new services. Every now and then we also offer special deals to get our customers to switch in their family members as Maxis customers or to extend a contract.
Additionally, in conjunction with Maxis’ 4G expansion into more towns in Sabah and Sarawak, we launched an introductory 4G promotion that comes with more data. We simply want the East Malaysian residents to enjoy the 4G experience with the upgraded network. The network upgrade has already happened in other parts of the country and now brings the same improved performance to 8 towns across East Malaysia.
So, does the reply seem convincing? Do weigh in on your opinion.
