The difference between a home internet connection and fast connection is a matter of perception you could say, what may seem a quick download for one could be a lifetime for another. But everyone will agree that as much as speed is relative, having uninterrupted 100 megabytes of internet connection per second is a welcome pleasure on any day or at least it would be for me. I’m a typical internet consumer, surf, watch videos, occasional online purchasing and I have more than five devices which are mostly in operation concurrently: with the 10Mb that I have right now, everything does feel slow whenever in use, pumping up to a 100Mb speed is in the pipeline for me.
With increasing adoption of internet in the country (there are approximately over 20 million Internet users in Malaysia) and many using multiple of devices in homes, the need for high speed broadband is ever more prevalent than before. Almost every smart device from smartphones to tablets, laptops, smart TVs and even game consoles can be only experienced better with faster internet connection.
Addressing this surge and no stranger in high speed connectivity services is non other than Maxis, the network operator has now introduced a fibre to home service that is about to cause long-term-grin-syndrome for subscribers of its 20, 30 and 100Mbps package. The new MaxisOne Home fibre package is available only for customers on the MaxisOne mobile plan, according to representatives of Maxis, on why limit to just a select group, the telco wants to create an expansive eco system under the MaxisOne family which will eventually grow to adopt all of its other customers.
Looking at the pricing, for the packages offered they are not shocking neither are they going to create long queues, pricing starts for the 20Mbps at RM170, RM220 for the 30 and RM330 on the 100Mbps high speed bullet train with a 2 year contract agreement. Encouragingly Maxis is providing a 30-day satisfaction guaranteed promise, and if you’re not happy with the service, you simply can cancel the service within this time frame and won’t be charged. Which points out to the first box on the diagram below.
Whats so special?
Here’s where the plan takes on an interesting twist, for the first time by any operator, Maxis is providing the MaxisOne plan holders who sign up for the packages, an on-call expert service who will come to your doorstep to sort out all your set-up problems for free. Maxperts is a team of specialist who know what they’re doing (unlike some other we know), will be at constant disposal to fix all internet issues upon installation, these are Maxis employees who has been trained to make sure that the home broadband is installed right and optimised to perform to its best.
“When we scanned blogs, forums and social feedback, we found the same recurring frustrations. 6 in 10 problems faced by home broadband users are to do with not getting WiFi around the home. Our goal is to build a broadband service that works perfectly by introducing MaxisONE Home, to get a customer’s broadband experience right, starting from installation itself. MaxisONE Home is a great addition to the MaxisONE suite of services, and a wonderful offering to Malaysian households which need consistently reliable fast broadband to do everything from Skyping, to streaming music and HD movies. This is home broadband the way it should be,” said Tai Kam Leong, Maxis’ Head of Integrated Services.
For those who are not on the MaxisOne plan will need to cough out RM188 if they require to have this special service experts included in their home fibre package.
