Hailed as the man who brought the mojo back to Maxis, Morten Lundal Chief Executive Office at Maxis is now set to leave the telecommunication operator after serving his four year tenure which ends in 31st March 2018. Tasked to transform the company in 2013, Morten was in an unenviable position after inheriting a beaten down company which was losing customers, poor network and dipping revenue.
Picked exclusively for the job, the man was no stranger in turning around companies with the boards consent, the former Digi CEO dug deep and got to work first fixing the technical issues before moving into the soft areas. We can recall, which struck is vividly was when he gave PC.com an exclusive tour of the office after removing walls and cubicles, changing the office environment from silo to open space. Hot-desking was the theme with even himself not having a table! It is then we knew, without a doubt Morten is the CEO Maxis needed.
Today Maxis is a different company, the strategies implemented have shown clear results with the company having won numerous awards including Best Service Provider from MCMC, which is a testament to the commitment the CEO and his team have invested in the past three years. Mr.Fixit has done his job and Maxis in on track to a stellar year with its best ever financial quarter, its 4G network is said to be the best in the country and overall customer service is on the upward trend. Despite the drop in subscribers- placing the telco behind Digi, Maxis still has the highest ARPU in the industry mainly due to its strong postpaid customer base.
Morten will be leaving a large shoe to fill, even though the company is back in positive form the telecommunication industry is extremely volatile with market competition and sensitive to pricing. Customer loyalty is favouring to cheaper data offerings which is why hordes of subscribers can be seen moving from one network provider to another every three months. A constant challenge faced by everyone!
Maxis in not out of the woods just yet, but at least Morten has cleared a path for them.
