Mastercard introduces the Gamer Academy, a groundbreaking development program in collaboration with G2 Esports and Riot Games. Aimed at gaming and esports enthusiasts worldwide, the Academy seeks to provide ten gamers with the necessary connections, mentorship, and skills to pursue esports careers, contributing to a more inclusive gaming ecosystem.
With over three billion self-identified gamers globally, spanning diverse age groups and genders, gaming has become a universal passion. Despite the expanding demographics, breaking into professional roles remains a challenge for many. Mastercard addresses this gap through the Gamer Academy, acknowledging the dynamic and diverse future of esports.
The program, set to commence in early 2024, offers participants:
- All-expense-paid trips to major esports events, including backstage access to the 2024 League of Legends World Championship, 2024 Valorant Champions, and a visit to the G2 Esports headquarters in Berlin.
- Exclusive access to seasoned esports professionals, including the G2 Hel, Gozen, and the men’s League of Legends and Valorant teams.
- In-person and digital sessions with notable mentors, featuring workshops on mental health, resilience, and allyship.
- A comprehensive educational curriculum covering brand engagement, marketing, content creation, event execution, and more.
The curriculum highlights will be presented in a series of episodes, offering insights into various opportunities within gaming and esports. Mastercard cardholders will enjoy early viewing access on Priceless.com.
G2 Esports, a premier global esports organization and a leader in women’s team representation across various games, powers the Academy. Romain Bigeard, General Manager of League of Legends at G2 Esports, expresses the goal of creating a clearer pathway to esports careers and inspiring individuals looking to launch their careers in the industry.
Mastercard, a pioneering brand in gaming and esports, became the first global partner of League of Legends in 2018. The brand recently extended its esports sponsorship to include the Valorant Champions Tour and VCT Game Changers.
Interested applicants worldwide, aged 21 and above, can submit entries on the Mastercard Gamer Academy website by December 17, 2023. For Official Contest Rules and application details, visit mastercard.com/gameracademy. G Esports Holding GmbH is the Official Sponsor of the program.
