Updated: We spoke to soon, the Government has rescinded the approval and will not allow Heineken to operate as previously stated. The company applied under the classification as a food and beverage company and received the go ahead from Domestic Affairs Ministry, however the green light should come from Home Affairs Ministry until the MCO is lifted.
Whats more worse, stuck in the house waking up staring at the wall whole day not knowing what to do or a perfectly planned evening with friends all on Zoom catching the replay between Liverpool and Manchester United, only to find the fridge empty with no beer? Yes, staring at the wall cant be worse than not having beer with friends.
This must be the case with over stocking and greedy buying before the start of the MCO that left many shelves in supermarkets empty, especially on beers. You must have seen the viral videos on Whatsapp, people ordering stacks and stacks of beers, planing their home quarantine much to their spouses chagrin. Its common knowledge on football weekends, the boys are already stocking up what not with this 28 home stay and unlimited replay of EPL, Spanish Liga and Champions League!
Not to fret, help is on the way. The Government has taken heed of the situation and heard the crying call of the male species and has given the green light to Heineken Malaysia to operate the factory with a minimal number of workers. Which also means the cans and bottles will be soon hitting the stores before you can say “let’s have another one”. Heineken is tasked to keep the well being of the people and will do so by ensuring the supplies are delivered to supermarkets, 7-Eleven and the pick up points as soon as possible.
Many of the outlets have run out of beer stock and have been turning customers away since last week, home consumption has increased three to five times more than usual, giving the depletion on inventory. Heineken despite operating with minimal staff will be able to ramp up productivity to fill the order as most of the production line is automated.
Cheer up guys, things will surely be looking up from here on and do ‘drink responsibly’ even in the confined space of your home.
