The sad reality of things right now is that times are tough, man. Everyone’s either had to take a pay cut, are out of a job, or are going to be out of a job soon. Okay fine perhaps i’m exaggerating, but for businesses such as gyms, you’d think that with people being unable to sign up or even visit the gym given the MCO, they’d be desperate for customers. In the case of Fitness Champ however, you’d think wrong.
Believe it or not, I hardly ever get to use this line but here goes.. Netizens are enraged at Fitness Champ after a prospective customer had her query for discounted rates absolutely shat on by the gym.
Sofia Cholan had merely sent a DM to Fitness Champ’s Instagram page explaining her situation, writing that while she won’t be able to afford the gyms rates, she can pay a minimal amount and in exchange she would be willing to be the face for the gyms success story when it comes to losing weight. Sounds innocent enough, right?
Well, nothing can prepare you for the gym’s response. Without any provocation, the gym replied by saying “if you can afford to go overseas, im sure you can afford our RM880 fees honey ;)”. Talk about audacity, huh? But it doesn’t end there!
After Sofia had replied to that comment, the gym subsequently posted a passive aggressive post on Instagram, a screenshot of Sofia’s query, followed by several pictures of her in what is probably the most blatant case of cyberbullying you’ll see by an organization. You’d think that the person in charge of the Instagram account of the gym is 5 years old or something. If there were ever a masterclass on how not to run a business, this would be it. The best part is, the gym had the audacity to flex on Sofia in a reply by name dropping some of the famous brands they work with, before saying that the owner will see her in court:
At this point, i’m just left to wonder how on earth the gym let it escalate to this level. I mean holy shit what the heck is going on here?! Its shocking to think that there are people out there who actually handle business like this.
Sofia took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the debacle
“I’ve been bullied before, but I’ve never been bullied by an organisation that claims to be “for women by women”. How can you attest to that statement if this is how you respond to people?”
And she’s absolutely right. Needless to say, netizens came to Sofia’s support, with many of them calling out the gym for cyberbullying. Some other gyms even offered Sofia to train Sofia for free. Needless to say, Fitness Champ has since switched their Instagram account to private.
